Customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance, and exceeding your expectations is our goal. Most custom orders start with a simple phone conversation, discussing your needs and the theme you are striving for. This conversation will begin the creative process and generate many ideas for your one-of-a kind piece. Pictures are a great way to communicate and illustrate your needs, which will save time during the design process. After the initial sketches are sent to you, Cyprus Copper Designs will work with you until you are completely satisfied. Once we have your approval and deposit, your project will begin in the order of which it was received.

Initial design and consultation fees start at $120. This gives the designer, Alistair Parker, time to research the project and create a few sketches which will then be submitted to you via e-mail, fax or mail. For more involved projects which require extensive research and networking, the fee is $60 per hour thereafter. However, IF YOU ACCEPT A DESIGN AND WE RECEIVE YOUR DEPOSIT, WE WILL NOT CHARGE YOU THE DESIGN FEE. One of the most exciting features here at Cyprus Copper Designs is our collaboration and friendship with Anchor Bend Glass, located in Newport, RI. Anchor Bend Glassworks produces exceptional hand blown glass for Cyprus Copper Designs. Their quality and craftsmanship compliments the unique pieces created here at Cyprus Copper Designs. By combining the two mediums of copper and hand blown glass, Cyprus Copper Designs produces extraordinary pieces like no other. An example of this exclusive collaboration is our Propeller Lamp, shown with Anchor Bend Glassworks’ “scalloped” shade. Look for more collaborations between Cyprus Copper Designs and Anchor Bend Glassworks in the near future.

Stained plate glass
Cyprus Copper Designs cuts each piece of stained glass in-house for each order received. This gives our customers many different options to create the desired ambiance. Featured pieces include- the Ring Lamp, shown with a white and amber-swirled stained glass. A deep brown and gold-swirled stained glass can be seen with our Study Lamp. Of course, clear and opaque glass is available as well. Please call for specific colors not listed here, we are happy to accommodate your needs.

Mica
Cyprus Copper Designs also uses mica in our lamp shades. This detail bestows an old world look, and emits a pleasant glow throughout the room. A great example of this can be seen with the Starburst Lamp. One of the best features when working with mica is that it can be shaped and contoured to fit a specific radius.]]> home http://www.cypruscopperdesigns.com/index.php?itemid=4 Mon, 25 Apr 2005 11:10:17 -0500 <![CDATA[Copper Finishes]]> http://www.cypruscopperdesigns.com/index.php?itemid=3 Cyprus Copper Designs offers several different finishes: a light, medium, or dark antique finish, a tiffany green or mint green patina, or a powder blue finish (other finishes are available upon request). These finishes are skillfully applied by hand and can react in varied ways. This results in a distinctive finish for every piece, creating a one of a kind work of art.

The following are some examples of the finishes that we offer.

There are several different coatings that can be applied to the finish. Most of the antique finishes, used for indoor purposes, receive a hand-buffed wax coating. This helps to maintain the finish and should be reapplied about twice a year for best results. The Tiffany green, Mint Green and Powder Blue patinas are coated with a matte sealer, this is a sprayed-on clear coat which seals in the desired finish.

For a natural finish, the copper will react depending on the environmental conditions it is exposed to, such as extensive moisture or coastal air conditions. This natural reaction adds to the allure and individuality of Cyprus Copper Designs' finished product. Each piece will take on its own personality once it settles into its new home.

To clean the copper, use a damp sponge or a soft cloth to dust the surface . Do not use any mild or harsh abrasives, as this will remove the desired finish.

Photo: This Old House 2003Designer/Fabricator, Alistair Parker, spent six years at the premier ornamental roofing company, Vulcan Supply Corp. During his time there, Alistair had the opportunity to work on over 1300 jobs, ranging from finials, dormers, and weathervanes as well as varied restoration and replication projects. This experience also brought him around the country to many different places, such as the CBS building in Atlanta, Georgia, a copper pagoda in Petaluma, California, and the Boston Public Library in Massachussetts. This diverse and unique opportunity at Vulcan Supply has prepared Alistair Parker to take on his own creative and challenging projects at Cyprus Copper Designs.
